Ralph Huddlestun (Teacher)

Ralph S. Huddlestun, 84, Celina, died October 1, 1986, at his residence.  Mr. Huddlestun taught social studies and history at Celina High School for 26 years, retiring in 1962 and then serving as director of transportation for the Celina City Schools until 1967.

He was born March 7, 1902, in Wells County, IN, the son of James Franklin and Eva Ellen Spaulding Huddlestun.  On May 2, 1926, he married Burdette Cole, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Helen (Junior) Robbins, Celina; a sister, Maxine Stilwell, Richmond, IN; three grandchildren, Mike Robbins, Kathleen Wilburn, and Peggy Bunnell; and two great-grandchildren, Naomi and Allan Bunnell.

One brother and one great-grandson are deceased.

Prior to teaching at Celina High School, Mr. Huddlestun had taught for seven years at Chester Center High School in Wells County, IN and for 13 years at Roann High School in Wabash County, IN.

He was a 1920 graduate of Montpelier High School, Montpelier, IN, and earned his B. S. degree from Ball State University in 1927.  He then graduated from Manchester College, N. Manchester, IN, obtaining his administrative license in 1929.

He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Celina, and the Mercer County and Ohio State Retired Teachers Associations.  He was a member of Masonic Lodge 583, Roann, IN, where he was past master in 1939.  He also was a member of R. A. M. No. 120, Celina, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, and the Celina Lions Club.

Services will be at Stein & Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, with burial in Swamp College Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Mercer County Home Health Agency or a charity of the donor's choice.
