PAULDING -- Joseph J. Zigovits Jr., 94, died Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at his daughter's home in Oxford, Ohio.
He was born in North Hampton, Pennsylvania, on August 16, 1920, the son of Joseph Sr. and Theresa (Zamper) Zigovits. On May 22, 1948, he married Ruth Ann Losher, who preceded him in death on April 14, 2011. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II. He had a master's degree in education and counseling. Previously he was employed by St. Henry School as a teacher, baseball and basketball coach, and Celina School as an industrial arts teacher, baseball coach and athletic director. He retired from Paulding Exempted Village Schools, where he had been a guidance counselor, teacher, baseball and basketball coach. After retirement he tutored many children. He was a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Parish, Paulding, where he was Eucharistic minister for 50 years. He a member of Payne American Legion, Paulding VFW, Knights of Columbus and Naval Reserve of Fort Wayne. He was a former Boy Scout leader. He delivered Meals on Wheels until the age of 90.
He is survived by three daughters, Teresa Zigovits of Toledo, Lucinda Zigovits of Oxford, and Katherine (Michael) Dangler, Snellville, Georgia; two sons, J. Michael (Mini) Zigovits of Farmington Hills, Michigan, and G. Christopher (Amy) Zigovits, Indianapolis, Indiana; a sister, Theresa Mondschien, Coplay, Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren, Christine (Jeremy) Fife, Lisa (Brandon) McDougle, Jessica (Brant) Verfaillie, John (Katie) Williamson, Luke (Sarah) Zigovits, Molly (Phil) Van Hooven, Ashley (Sam) Hicks, Alex Koenn, Griffin Dangler and Jacob Dangler; and 11 great-grandchildren, Megan, Julia, and Jacob Fife, Madison, Brooklyn and Samuel Verfaillie, Bela McDougle, Lily and Parker Williamson, Olive and Juda Zigovits.
He is also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Zigovits; and sisters, Mary Kish and Stella Kemmerer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish, Paulding, with Rev. Joseph Poggemeyer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery with military rites accorded by VFW Post 587. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m.-noon Tuesday, November 18, at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, and from 1 p.m. until time of services at the church.
